Catherine Mills Royer—Cathie to students and friends—trained as a painter and works primarily in oil and encaustic (and mixtures of the two).  Recently she has become interested in book arts and has pursued book structures and printmaking, especially with photopolymer plates, which sometimes combines digital work with traditional methods of hand printing.

Cathie has exhibited her work professionally since 1980, in juried or invitational regional, national, and international exhibitions; solo and small group exhibitions; and community exhibitions.  Her works have been collected by many private individuals in addition to

Genomic Health, Inc., Redwood City, CA.

Olin Fine Arts Center Gallery, College of Washington and Jefferson, Washington, PA.

Evansville Museum of Arts and Sciences, Evansville, IN.

Monroe County Community College, Monroe, MI.

Adrian College, Adrian, MI.

Before beginning to teach at the college level, Cathie taught art at Clay Junior High School in Carmel, IN.  (She is the faculty member overseeing art education in the Department of Art and Design.)

She holds a Bachelor of Science in art education from Butler University, a Master of Arts (studio focus) from Ball State University, and a Master of Fine Arts in painting from Miami University, where she was a graduate teaching assistant.  She also took many graduate courses in art history—another strong interest--at Indiana University (Bloomington, IN).
