STUDION ART DEGREES
In the Art Department at Adrian College, Art Majors have a choice of two different four-year degree programs. Students can work toward achieving either a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (BFA).

The BA (Bachelor of Arts)
The Bachelor of Arts degree is a more broad degree that includes all the core art classes, like 2D, 3D, and Drawing but allows space for other areas of interest. It is a degree that is less demanding in terms of the number of studio art courses required. For example, a student may have a strong interest in photography, paining, or ceramics, but would also like to double major with business or communications. One who pursues this degree may choose to continue their education in a Master of Arts graduate program.

The BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts)
The Bachelor of Fine Arts is a more rigorous degree. It is also the more prestigious degree among artists. It is more demanding in its requirements in terms of the number of studio art courses. It is for students who want to concentrate more of their skill and effort into a particular area of concentration. A student who wishes to pursue this path may intend on continuing their education by enrolling in a graduate program where they can achieve a Master of Fine Arts Degree.  The purpose of this higher degree may be for further personal development, but it is also a degree that is required for teaching in Higher Education. We are proud to have had students accepted at some of the most highly ranked graduate programs in the United States, such as Cranbrook Academy of Art, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Columbus College of Art & Design, the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), the Rhode Island School of Design, Columbia College, and many others.

Both of these four-year programs include opportunities for internships and study abroad. Small class sizes allow the students of both programs to receive personal instruction, advising, and tutoring in a supportive atmosphere. International Students and Transfer students are welcome to join either degree program and should consult the Registrar for information on requirements.

For more specific course requirements for either of these degrees, please consult the current Adrian Course Catalog.
